High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Frenchs Forest Public School, we work intentionally to meet the unique needs of high potential and gifted students. We continually support our students with appropriate challenges to foster deep engagement, creativity and critical thinking.

  • Our teachers use ongoing assessment to identify high potential and gifted students across all learning domains (intellectual, creative, social–emotional, and physical). Evidence-informed teaching practices are used to foster talent development, building on student strengths and interests.
  • A positive and supportive classroom culture encourages all students to pursue excellence, connect with peers, and develop confidence. Students are offered enrichment and extension activities that encourage intellectual curiosity, innovative thinking, collaboration and a deep sense of belonging.
  • Teachers collaborate with families to understand and facilitate students' learning goals and aspirations. We value and support all our students, ensuring equitable access to HPGE opportunities in every classroom.
Across our school

We value and support our students by offering diverse activities enabling them to authentically discover and develop their interests and talents and reach their full potential.

  • Students across the school engage in small group enrichment initiatives in English and mathematics providing opportunities for students to develop their strengths and build connection to like minded peers
  • Communication skills are developed through debating and public speaking.
  • Students foster STEM and coding skills by participating in robotics, 3D printing, science experiments, film and media communications.
  • Talent and performance skills are developed and celebrated through school performances and showcases such as our FFPS Performance Showcase, School Training Band and School Performance Band, music ensembles, School Choir, School Dance Performance Group, School Dance Workshop Group.
